Blizzard is legally opposing Valve’s trademark for the Dota name which ‘for more than seven years has been used exclusively by Blizzard and its fan community, under license from Blizzard.’ according to Blizzard. Dota (or DOTA) stands for ‘Defence of the Ancients’, a fan made map for Warcraft 3. Valve hired two of the creators of the map (Eul and IceFrog) and trademarked the name Dota to use for their upcoming MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, Dota2.

Update: Corrected myself. Blizzard isn’t suing just taking legal action in opposition to Valves trademark of Dota. The main point is still the same though, Blizzard are trying to stop Valve from using the Dota name.
Also posting what is apparently the Trial Schedule:

That is bullshit…
you spelled defense wrong
…and you forgot to capitalize the first letter of your sentence, as well as a period. You are a disgrace to grammar nazis everywhere. Go home.
Defence and Defense are the same word defence is just the british/canadian way to spell it. So yes huge grammar Nazi fail.
More importantly, that’s not a lawsuit. That’s an opposition to trademark filing. No one’s suing anyone, they’re just lodging their arguments as to why Valve doesn’t deserve the Dota trademark.
Why is there someone who can’t spell and use punctuation correctly doing a news article? OT: It’s not blizzard that made the game DOTA it’s these two guys Valve hired and some other people, so the name should be copyright under them. I can see where Blizzard are coming from though, it’s been used throughout Warcraft for over 7 years so there is some kind of way to think it’s theirs…
Please read this part again : ” Dota (or DOTA) stands for ‘Defence of the Ancients’ a fan made map for Warcraft 3. Valve hired two of the creators of the map (Eul and IceFrog) and trademarked the name Dota ” and then comment…
I am no longer certain the place you are getting your information, however good topic. I needs to spend a while studying more or understanding more. Thanks for fantastic information I was in search of this information for my mission.
F*cking unbelievable Blizzard. Sueing Valve to interfere with the profit that it can potentially gain. No intention of helping the community. Coming up with a sh*ty game, Blizzard Dota, they realize they have no chance and sue. Thanks Blizzard, incapable of balancing Starcraft2 n this.
Yo blizz, thanks for being there when there was no reconnection tool for Dota, when there were no official servers/websites/videos/competitions etc. Truly, YOU BLIZZ DUDES WERE THE ONLY REASON DOTA IS WHERE IT IS NOW AND YOU REALLY DESERVE ALL THE CREDIT.
NOT.
Go screw yourself you bunch of greedy fags.
Blizzard did indeed provide the tools and majority setup to make dota possible, but the ideas and work does not justly or legally belong to them no matter how much they want it so. Nor will they risk their relationship with valve, its friendly competition, blizzard is just pissed that they failed to deliver. Any issue Blizzard makes of this is going to be very bad publicity for them, this isnt holywood where any publicity is good publicity, on the internet and gaming, if ur labeled a dick, u get shunned by the community. I seriously love Valve… like soooo much, and no, I’m not biased, even though I found starcraft 2 to be a bore and was out a hundred bucks, but w/e.
If this becomes even more similar to interplay and Bethesda squabble, I’m gonna be so pissed, but trust me, u don’t want ONE random guy on the internet bad mouthing a giant mega corporation. It’ll become SUCH A BIG DEAL. (capitals = sarcastic font as there is no italic option available). To conclude, screw off blizzard, ya slow game making, only good for awesome cinematics, bastards.
